PVC is a polar amorphous polymer with strong intermolecular forces, making it a hard and brittle material. The impact strength is relatively low. After the addition of impact modifiers, the elastomer particles of the impact modifiers can reduce the total stress caused by silver streaks, and by utilizing the deformation and shear bands of the particles themselves, prevent the expansion and growth of silver streaks, and absorb the impact energy transmitted into the material body, thereby achieving the purpose of impact resistance. The particles of the modifier are very small, which is conducive to increasing the amount of modifier per unit weight or unit volume, thereby raising the effective volume fraction and enhancing the ability to disperse stress. The most widely used type is the organic impact modifier.
